Zimbabwe is the only country on the African continent that has the largest variety and deposits of stones suitable for sculpting. Zimbabwe has a long stone carving tradition dating back to the Munhumutapa Empire in the 12th century.
Stones are usually classified into four groups each defined by its hardness or carvability. Soapstone is the easiest and granite is the fourth hardest stones for carving. Within each type of carving stone there is also varying degrees of hardness.
Carving stones are available in free-form shapes mainly. Stones may be cut to specific pre-cut shapes and/or sizes upon request by the client.
The colors of the stone you receive with your order may vary from the colors of the sample stone used for viewing. Don’t forget to send us some pictures of your work and progress so that we can share it on social media and on our website.
