Description

As the title suggests, this bird calls upon rain to come. The metaphor of the bird and the rain signifies positive change, growth and development in life. Life has seasons just as the weather.

This is an original one of a kind, hand carved stone sculpture made by one of the first generation master stone sculptors of Zimbabwe, the late Sylvester Mubayi. He was amongst the first generation of Zimbabwean sculptors to achieve international exposure and acclaim. His career as a sculptor begun in 1967 when he joined the Tengenenge Sculptor Community under Tom Blomefield.

Born in 1942, Sylvester Mubayi was a revered old man. His life and work was guided by Shona culture and beliefs. As an elder he taught and advised the young in the community through metaphor and storytelling. His sculptures always tell a story as well.
