Dear Art Lovers and Supporters,
Zimbabwean artists are facing an unprecedented crisis. The political and economic challenges have plunged many artistic households into extreme poverty. With the arts sector heavily reliant on international buyers and tourists; the current political uncertainty and economic downturn has severely impacted their livelihoods.
Since establishment, AVAC Arts has been dedicated to providing a global platform for Zimbabwean artists. We are a socially oriented enterprise that believes that adaptation and utilisation of new ICTs can be used for poverty alleviation and employment creation in the local Zimbabwean art communities.
In 2019, we relocated to Victoria Falls, the 7th Wonder of the World and a thriving tourism hub to try and complement this goal. After two years of dedicated work, we were able to open our first outdoor gallery next to the Victoria Falls International Airport Arrival terminal on 1 January 2023.
We’ve transformed the landscape, creating a mini paradise showcasing the incredible talent of Zimbabwean artists. However, as a startup gallery, we’re facing a critical challenge: we urgently need to raise $4,590 to avoid eviction and for our staff welfare. Tourism is currently off-season and the dry season has been prolonged with the current political instability in Zimbabwe. This is an SOS! We had underestimated the amount of time, funding and work required to achieve the gallery breakeven point.
