Zimbabwe stone sculptures are made from natural stone that is usually polished with floor wax to make it shine. With continuous exposure to weather elements, the shine fades over time.
This video is a simple guide on how to clean and restore a stone sculpture.
Instead of heating the sculpture (after cleaning it with water and a clothe) with a gas blower, you can take the sculpture out on a sunny day. Once the sculpture has absorbed enough natural sun heat and it is warm/hot, you can proceed to apply wax in moderation using a clothe. Leave the sculpture to absorb the wax for a short while and then proceed to polish the sculpture with a dry clothe until satisfied.
The artist featured in this short documentary is Personal Zenda, a Chitungwiza stone sculptor. The sculpture was made by Ishmael Chitiyo.
