It is rare to find both husband and wife taking up stone sculpting as a career in the Zimbabwe Shona stone art sculpting industry. Both Elvis Mamvura and Lorraine Usayi Mamvura are seasoned sculptors in their own right and with different approaches, techniques, themes and stone/medium preferences.
Elvis is the son to Albert Nathan Mamvura and stone sculpting is a family legacy.
It is particularly challenging for women in Zimbabwe to take up stone sculpting, not least because of the time and dedication required, but also because it is a patriarchal society. Elvis over the years has stood very supportive to his wife and mentored her into becoming the artist she is today. Lorraine’s is driven by the desire to want to show the world that a woman’s place is not just in the kitchen.
We hope that you will be able to find something of interest to purchase and support the Mamvura sculpting family during this global COVID -19 pandemic which has been earmarked by a decline in tourism and sales for many artists. Both Elvis and Lorraine do sculpting as a full time occupation.
Shipping and packing will be quoted separately and on a case by case basis.
